Chris, what qualifies you to be an Online Marketing and SEO Consultant?

In order for me to answer this question I must first share a few defining moments with you in my own quest for online business growth.

My first defining moment was when I took on a second hat or role at a low paying job I went to day after day just to make ends meet. That second hat or role was as a technology coordinator. I suddenly had a reason to finish up with my side studies and really master the things I was so passionate about; working with computers.

I became very good with computers very quickly from studying up through structured online training programs and practical everyday application with trouble shooting and resolving issues. Just to make it official, I acquired the CompTIA A+ certification.

I then realized that I could make so much more money with my skills if I just started my own business and treated people the way they really wanted to be treated. Most people wanted great customer service along with simply being able to solve their technical problems. And, they wanted to go to someone they could trust.

But, how would I find these customers? I have now opened up shop for a local computer repair business so it only makes sense that I should have a website right? How do I get a website? Well, one thing lead to another and yet another until I mastered the WordPress content management system and all of the latest Internet technologies that go along a website like customer relations and email management, hosting, domain registrations, web security, and Getting Found Online.

My second defining moment was when I realized that working my passion alone was simply not enough to create a sustainable income. I had to learn how to market my business. Now, I would be the first person to tell you that I don’t like sales. I don’t like sales pitches and I don’t like sales people. It all seems so scripted, contrived, and not very authentic. It never fit with me. Which may be why I gravitated to the natural search engine marketing methods using SEO and why I love using Social Media so much to feed and support those SEO results. How quickly can I expect to see results?

There are many variables that affect how quickly you see results. Some variables are simply technically oriented; is your website performing as it should?

Other variables are related to things outside of your website; how competitive is your targeted online market?

While all of these variables are addressed, they will play a role in how soon you will see results. Service based business owners in very competitive markets will need to be much more patient than others. Businesses in not so competitive markets often see first page results within weeks.

It is important to remember that SEO & Social Media is not a one-time thing though. Once you start to see results, you need to stick with it to maintain and improve results. Remember, your competitors are also trying to get more business online too. This is not a time to take a nap!
